A great ride from start to finish

I just finished the game and the ending really blew me away. I feel as though Beyond is Quantic Dream's best work in a lot of ways. Better writing and voice acting than Heavy Rain, and the emotional manipulation that the game throws at you really pulls you into the experience. It's not for everyone, but those that CAN appreciate a game like this are in for a real treat. If you enjoyed Heavy Rain, then you will more than likely enjoy this. Give a try!

Quantum Dream is becoming well known for their vivid graphics and differences of game play interaction. This title is very immerse in the story and rich detail of the world. The controls however... Fall hard into being the downfall of the title. You will constantly find yourself trying to engage something, and no-response... Sometimes you will evenly do something unexpected trying to do another task. The frustration, I had with doing something so simple is what made me dislike the title. I understand Quantum Dream wants to make a game--like no other game--but the controls should be INTUITIVE, not uniquely unresponsive and stupid... The controls give me the impression, that Quantum Dream is wanting to give a unique gameplay style... But QUANTUM DREAM, YOU trying to hard. The controls are 80% of the game and if a game has bad controls, it makes it unplayable.

As the story goes, you assume the role of Jodie and Aiden.

Jodie is an enigma of a person, studied on all her life... She has an entity companion bounded to her soul called, Aiden. Distant in the world in which she lives... Always at the despair of the entity Aiden... Jodie is left trying to find her place in the world as the oddity she is labeled throughout her life.

Very interesting story... Very movie-like in the scenes and scenario. The game has drawn out plot and drama... Not what you'd aspect from a video-game.

Just IF the controls worked... or had simplified controls... Using the analog sticks to engage in a one action, where it could just be a button push... Is senseless... Sure I pushed down 5 times at the right time on the analog stick, but still... It says I did not... Does not make a fun game, experience... Specially, when the story is captivating and I CANT GET PAST ONE STUPID PART.

Anyhoo.. Clever title.. Cruddy control elements. Either way its worth a rent... Maybe its just my controller, but either way... The controls made it wack.

Watching a Game, or Playing a Movie?

Beyond: Two Souls is a challenging game to review because it's incredibly difficult to define as a "game" in the traditional sense. This plays more like a (very long) movie and suffers because of this. Gameplay consists mainly of QTE sequences or walking slowly around the gorgeous environments. I can get over the limited gameplay if the story is top notch, but unfortunately it feels uneven and at times boring. Towards the end of the 8-9 hours it took to complete Beyond, I really wished that it would be over with so I could move on. This game is purely for those who loved Heavy Rain, and even then you may find yourself yawning. Good performances by Mr. Dafoe and Ms. Page though.
