I rented this game just expecting another great interactive story like Heavy Rain, little did i know that it would be one of the best video game experiences i have had in 20+ years. The story grabs you and just keeps going, I did my first playthrough in one sitting. Keep in mind it was so good it kept me there for 10 hours straight. The storytelling is deep and compelling and i felt emotional bonds for the characters including hatred and a feeling i would explain almost as love. Every choice you make in the game, big or small, has its consequences and can alter the story a great deal. There are plenty of high adrenaline moments and plot twists to keep you entertained and also some moments that can bring a tear even to the most unemotional of people. I highly recommend giving it a try, its a little different than a traditional game but its definitely worth the experience.
As a movie, Beyond: Two Souls is excellent. I like the storyline, I love the graphics, I love the interaction between characters.
As a game, it's... well... it's not a game. It's a movie where you occasionally - very very occasionally - click a button. There's almost no real interactivity between player and game.
Your choice don't really matter for much whether you succeed or fail even, and if you're trying to get trophies, the method of having the character dodge is frustrating. Also choosing the replay of time periods is very frustrating since it's not clear HOW to choose a time period. It's a shame - I thought it would be a lot like The Last of Us in gameplay (which was amazing).
I'm not saying it's not a good thing to rent. You'll finish it in probably a day, and you'll probably like the story, but there's nothing about it that makes it a fun game, rather than a very good movie.
In the end, it's a game to rent, definitely not a game to buy and own unless it's a bargain bin deal. Hopefully if there's a sequel, they'll make more interactivity
Combat is very natural.
Best game since Heavy Rain.
Excellent voice and motion-capture acting makes for a very immersive experience.
The fights are fluid and keep the focus on the action.
Deep story and well-developed characters.
