Hideki Kamiya is a genius. The man behind such games as Okami, Devil May Cry, and Viewtiful Joe has done it again. Bayonetta is a stylish action game that delivers entertainment in spades. Games like this are why I play video games in the first place.
Kamiya stated that the overall theme of Bayonetta is 'sexiness', and the entire game just oozes it. The entire game is just about as slick, stylish, and cool as they come. From the opening sequence, you're plunged into the world of a hot witch who kills angels with pistols and fires magic from her hair. Simply put, the game makes you feel like a badass. Combat is so fluid that it will make you want to cry at just how awesome everything feels. The crux of the combat is executing dodges which activate a 'witch time' effect in which enemies move in slow motion and are suceptible to an onslaught of combos. Mastering the dodge is key, as is managing combos and getting used to the bevy of weapons.
The story of Bayonetta is interesting, but will leave most people scratching their heads. That isn't to say that the story is 'bad', it's just overly complicated and down right silly at times. Of course, because the game does not take itself too seriously, it's story is not really the prime focus here, it's Bayonetta...and Bayonetta herself is one nasty witch. Some moments of the game are just hilarious, and others make you feel as though you're watching an action movie...especially when Bayonetta blasts a 3000ft tall monster into rubble. Oh, and did I mention that you get to ride a motorcycle up the side of a rocket into outer-space? Well, you do. And it's awesome.
The bottom line is that Bayonetta is a shockingly slick, masterful game that deserves the applause lauded upon it. Some people won't like it because of their perception of the battle system or because their tastes differ from the game's, but those people are probably tight-a$$es who need to grow a pair. Maybe they could ask Bayonetta for some spares.
truly the main reason i didnt like this game much is the fact that i found the gameplay repetitive and the over-the-top character and music terribly annoying... on the bright side good visuals and cutscenes
