not a rental title, but definitely worth buying.

Battlefield 3, like most other shooters finds its replayability worth in the online multiplayer. Unfortunately, you won't experience that just renting this title unless you wish to spend another 10usd for an online pass.

So for those who missed the multiplayer open beta a month before the game came out, you're basically stuck with just a subpar single player campaign.

Which is a shame as the online pass requirement is the only real downside to this title, but it's foreseeable that these things are becoming more common nowadays so it's nothing to really get worked up over.

Anyways, for those who are willing to pay the price to buy the game or just the online pass, you'll unlock the 99% of what makes this title such a great game.

Battlefield 3 is a huge improvement over Bad Company 2 in almost all aspects especially in concern to graphics, gameplay, and the balancing of classes and vehicles.

The environments are less cookie-cutter buildings and more realistic and dynamic. It's more than viable to play just about any class on most every level, and while vehicles aren't as individually devastating as they were in Bad Company 2 (ref blackhawks), there is no shortage of them either, so there's a lot less of the in-fighting over who gets to fly the air plane or helicopter as there used to be.

Battlefield 3 also offers a much different experience than that of Call of Duty or Halo, and it'd really be comparing apples and oranges between the titles as each requires an almost completely different playstyle to do well in.

Also, a quick mention that having friends to play this game with makes it even better with the squad feature common to battlefield games.

Before I write my review, I want to recognize that EA was indeed being greedy with the extra ten dollars to play online - If you have purchased it used, this ten dollars will be well worth it, if not, this game isn't for you. I think if you give this game a "1" review you should not have written a review at all, as you never saw the whole game, much like people saying "MW3 has better multiplayer," when they haven't played it yet. Now, the campaign isn't anything special, and if you are playing on console this game is nothing without the HD Pack, because the textures will be blurry and pathetic.
Now, if you get passed those seriously big hiccups in EA's production, you can get to what the Battlefield games do best - Multiplayer. With a large amount of unlocks, clean-cut classes, and large-scale combat maps it will be a while before you get bored of this. Notice that if you like run-and-gunning like much of us have come to be well practiced at from Call of Duty, Battlefield 3 will take some getting used to. If you are not working in a squad or assisting your teammates, you will ALWAYS lose the match. Camping is done through concealment, not cover, because if you get annoying be prepared to swallow a rocket. If you play tactical with friends and your squad, you will find the game much more entertaining. Throughout multiplayer matches, though the gametype and map may be the same, the conditions could not be more different. Maybe you have two Little Bird helicopters reeking havoc among on of your objectives, whereas last game it was the snipers dominating the area. Every game you must adapt creatively and tactically in order to win, which makes this game the best modern FPS online game in stores now. Watch out Modern Warfare 3, you better not be the Modern Warfare 2 $60 DLC I am expecting.

It's all Hype...

First off, I feel that which shooter you prefer is pure preference. There's a specific feel and controller layout that I'm used to and although I'm sure some people will like this game, I wasn't feeling it. They made a big deal on the graphics and what things would look like with the separate HD install, but I didn't see anything that I haven't already seen in a shooter. I also felt that the trailers for the game were photo shopped versions of the actual game play footage, but that could of just been me. It seemed to lag a little bit while I was playing too. Also, seeing as how I rented I was subject to EA's online pass if I wanted to play I can't even comment on that. But I can however say that I doubt I'd like a game for it's competitive multiplayer if I wasn't even happy using the controls for it's single player. I give it a 7 because I don't think it was bad, but I was expecting something I haven't already seen before....that didn't happen.
