Oh. Your. God. What a disaster of a game. This game almost made me appreciate Final Fantasy 10 just to put in perspective how bad it is. (don't harp me on ff10, i hated it, but this is about bk:ew-lo)
This game is basically a punch in the groin to anyone who loves either a card game or a good RPG. It has bad combat, lame narrative, terrible characters and above all else, is just plain DRY, in every sense of the word.
The Story:
Air ships, lame mopey protagonist, a mystical girl with some mcguffin-like purpose......its all been done before. Games like ff10 and skies of arcadia did it so much better and still brought to the table the same things that made this game even get a second look. (We'll get there later)
The Character's:
Ripped off from other games. Bland and 1 dimensional. Just all around UNLIKABLE. I get they were trying to make the protagonist a jerk...but, you will hate him so much by that you will repeatedly let him die out of rage.....you'll think Tidus was like the second coming of Roy Liota.
The Score:
Nothing Special.
The Visual Aspect:
Nice too look at, but so is Tara Reid.....until she opens her mouth.
Gameplay:
Different, but "different" aint always good. I loved ff12's combat, thought the narrative was subpar, but the combat was good and new and different and.... i digress. The card thing seemed cool, but after the 11th fight, you start to hate it fast. It requires all luck of the draw and no strategy. (although i did like the finishing moves)
Overall:
Its ungodly amount of letdowns make it a travesty to gamers everywhere. You want good visuals go play go play any recent ff game, you want gameplay, go play chrono trigger, you want the greatest rpg of all time, play Skies of Arcadia.......if you feel like you have run out of RPG's.....buy a SW: tOR scrip, before playing this game. Id give it a zero, but i DID like the finishers, visuals, and score.........and it wont let us give it a zero.

I only played this game for a couple minutes, but that was all I could handle.
It is just clunky and slow, kind of like a mediocre playstation RPG.
it could be good, but just isn't. the graphics and story are neat, but is just not comfortable to control.

not a novelty retro play.

At heart this is a good game, and I saw great potential in it. But when you pick up the controller and start to play with high hopes.. You will be greatly disappointed.

The card battle system should keep you suprised and excited and thrilled for 'bout 30 battles, 50 max. It really gets boring, and very quick.

And you must know about the voice-overs... They sound like an automated machine talking. The worst I've ever seen.

That was to name just two downsides of this game. I sent this back before finishing, I just couldn't stand it. So I think I'll stick with Tales of Symphonia..
