Many girls' favorite doll (not Bratz) is back in an all new adventure out on DVD, Barbie and the 3 Musketeers. And with most kid films, there's going to be an average to bad game based on the movie to make more money.
Barbie and the 3 Musketeers, the game, continues the tradition. In this game, you start off with one of the four ladies who are out to become musketeers. As you progress through several 2D platforming levels, the other three ladies join in, one by one.
Each girl has a special ability - one has the ability to crawl across the roof, one has the ability to wrap a scarf around a hook and swing to a distant platform, the third can shoot arrows, and the fourth can jump very high.
Each level has 100 coins for you to collect and use to buy different colored outfits for the ladies which encourages exploring. And it has some good ideas as to making use of the special skills the ladies have.
But this game has some serious problems.
The levels seem to go on and on and on with the same obstacles and the same solutions to those obstacles.
There's the Royal Guard, a bunch of whimps that you can beat up. No wonder the prince is in danger.
And the voice overs can get very repetitive (and annoying). Just because a cat can talk doesn't mean he should.
I know, this game's for the girls, but they may not like it. The outfits the ladies and their cat friend wear are all the same. All you can do is buy different colors of the same outfit. You don't get to design a new dress or fashion their hair and nails or choose what accesory they should put on.
As for the story, many girls will like it, but to get to the next scene, they have to go through another long, dull 2D platforming level. It would be much easier to just get the DVD.
So I say the girls who are into this genre of entertainment get Barbie and the 3 Musketeers, the DVD, and forget about the sloppily slapped together cash in game. SKIP IT
