HOWEVER, if you're like me. The story and art of this game are not really my style. I give it a high rating because it controls solidly, looks good, and feels great to play with a fleshy story; but I didn't play it for more than an hour because I could not get into that story. You don't sit there and read a book that you don't like the story to, do ya? If you like the story, sit back and enjoy; but if you don't like crazy gods and space shenanigans, stay away.

You play as a very angry god named Asura looking for vengeance. This god really needs a chill pill cuz he is crazy!
The game looks great, this really is japanese animation at it's best. You will often look at very cool scenes were you have to press buttons repeatedly in order to succeed. All this is really cool, but you will spend about 75% of you're time watching instead of actually playing the game, this might be a cool twist for some, but others won't appreciate this idea. You can skip all of Asuras many cutscenes, but then you would skip through most of the game, and they are really interesting to watch. This game really feels like a Movie or tv-series, each chapter is about 30 minutes and at the end of each chapter the credits will show up, just like in a movie.
The combat is simple, but yet very fun, and all the missions are very different, so you will never find yourself doing the same thing, over and over again.
Although it has some of the best cutscenes you will see in a game, Asura's wrath only took 5 hours for me too beat, and there is no multiplayer or reason to comeback, unless you want to play the campaign all over again. So lets sum it all up.
Pros:
- Great cutscenes, some of the best iv'e ever seen!
- Great animations
- A very interesting plot
- Something you've never seen before, great for someone that wants to try something new.
Cons:
- Way too short, I finished this game in 5 hours and shipped it back the next day after getting it.
- Sometimes it feels like the game forgets about you and you just watch for a very long time.
A unique experiences, and a fun one, although this is a game you should only rent because you don't want to buy a game this short!
7,5/10 toasts.

Seeing how this is more of a show rather than a game, we have to take more into account the story and execution; both of which have been topped off with great talent. The action will get at least the most guilty Dragonball Z fan absolutely excited, and the story pulls strings of anger or adoration for the characters within. I'll tell you right now, chapters 10 and 11 are the very best in the whole game; just you see.
The musical score is purely brilliant; so well orchestrated and befitting the various situations greatly.
But when you get down to the meat of the gameplay...there's no meat to it. You're gonna be trying to get to the marrow of the bone to get some actual gameplay, as the beat-em-up and on-rails-shooting segments are usually unfullfilling. Especially the brawling; smack on a legion of enemies or enemy enough until you've filled up a gauge, release it in order to get into the next segment. Flying shooter segments are a bit more entertaining, but still not too varied. It leaves to be desired.
But once again, I have to tell you: Don't take this as a game, take it as an experience. This is a madhouse of awesomeness with explosive fun within the story and visuals. Those into asian culture will notice nice touches of hindu and buddhist influence in the game mythos. I'll say it again: check it out!

There are more cutscenes and QTE sections than actual gameplay sections. The game manages it very well though, and nothing ever gets really stale. Still, I HAVE to point out that if you are expecting a multi-plat God of War this isn't it.
The gameplay itself. It varies from a beat-em up style, to a somewhat third-person shooter, boss battles, and QTE's. The latter being the majority as far as I can see.
The graphics on the enemies and the main cast is really well done. Some set pieces are down right beautiful. But regular npc's look horrible.
The soundtrack and story are awesome. If you're a fan of revenge stories this is for you.
In conclusion this is an interactive anime if you need to think of it that way. Very few gameplay sections compared to cutscenes, but if your main interest is to see the story [like myself] you won't mind. Definitely a rent.

The game, which I thought was great b/c of the awesome cut scenes and good story, ends with a pretty good cliffhanger.
Wanna know how it ends? All you gotta do is pay 560 MS points and you can play the last few levels of the game.
That's right, instead of putting the last four levels on the game disc, the geniuses at CyberConnect2 decided to wait until after the release, then put the levels as DLC which must be purchased.
They really reached a new low in the video game industry.

Allow me to get right to the heart of the matter: Asura's Wrath is not so much a game as an interactive anime series with some QTE's and fighting mixed in occasionally. It's obvious that the creators wanted to make an anime and in this respect the presentation nails that perfectly! The game is broken up into separate episodes complete with opening credits, commercial breaks (minus the commercials), and previews of the next episode. It really makes you feel like you are watching an anime.
Speaking of the presentation, the graphics are amazing! The sound design is equally wonderful, fitting each scene perfectly and making the experience even better. The only problem I had is that the sound balance is sometimes off, making it hard to hear what characters are saying.
As for the gameplay, yes it isn't a strong point. For the majority of the game your interaction is just QTE's during cinematics and occasionally simple beat-em-up combat segments. But the QTE's are done well (usually giving ample time to press the button and not ending the game if you aren't perfect) and they fit the action, ie moving the sticks to dodge an attack or mashing B to rapidly punch. It surprisingly made me feel part of the action and often caught myself yelling in effort just like Asura as he exerted himself. While nothing complex the third person combat is easy to learn and gets the job done fine, though the camera can be a little off when things get heavy.
I think nime fans, in particular those who love over the top action such as DBZ, will love the experience enough to overlook any minor problems. It might not be worth a buy (especially at $50+) but anyone remotely interested should experience it at least once!

Level 1: Cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, 15-30 seconds of action, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, and finally level over.
Level 2: Cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, 15-30 seconds of action, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, and finally level over.
Level 3: Cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, 15-30 seconds of action, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, cut scene, and finally level over.
You get the picture. This has to be the worst game I have played in awhile.

The creators also made the game like how an anime series is portrayed. Like at the intro of each episode, they show the their team credits like "Publish by Capcom. Developed by" etc... This actually annoyed me because they show it all the dang time.
Overall, I thought this game was bad. It got boring and repetitive really fast. It gets a five.
