I can hardly believe it but I actively loathe a game from my favorite franchise of this console generation. After the cash-in that was Revelations this is the first time I've rented an Assassin's Creed game before buying and I'm glad I did. The combat is tedious and unfun. The mission design is the most uninspired it's been since the first game. The setting seems completely wasted on a story and characters that aren't worth caring about. Connor's aspergers syndrome personality makes the crew back in the real world seem even more cartoony than before. The framerate dips to unplayable levels often. The world and assets range from incredible beauty to Playstation 2 era chunkiness often in the same frame. The entire package seems to be a step back.

Assasins Creed 3

The latest Assasins Creed game was a complete failure for me. The graphics are enjoyable but that is about it for the positives. The game offered nothing new or exciting that warrants a purchase of it.

I have enjoyed the series to this point but despite my optimism, nothing has changed to improve the previous releases and it leaves you feeling like you paid for a Rolex but received a Timex in its place.

The normal annoyance of not seeing your character when fighting in tight spots is still present. You can often not look up to see a limb when climbing trees. The hunting addition is cute, but hardly a significant addition to a storied series.

I returned the game before completion. The last straw for me was while in a typical fight with guards in Boston. My noteriety was full and as usual, anyone that sees you attacks. No problem. Then they just continued coming from no where. I fought them for 30 minutes or longer and they just magically spawned as if necromancy was in play. I killed the entire city of Boston's population several times over and had enough. I should mention the concerned citizens wringing thier hands in grief as they continued to stand in the middle of fights instead of moving away.

I have loved the Assasins Creed franchise up to this point. That ended with Assasins Creed 3.
