As a fan of this entire franchise, I found AC3 to be much more involved than previous releases. With the addition of the Frontier region, no longer are you trapped in boring city-scapes. The graphics in the forests are absolutely amazing as are the environmental effects (fog, rain, lightning, thunder, swamp mist etc). And with a region like Frontier, hunting wild animals and using them as a resource becomes a necessity...which is both fun and challening.
The coolest addition to this game are the naval missions. I've not read much about the naval aspect of this game, but let me tell you, captaining your own ship against British warships on the (sometimes) high seas is amazing. Graphically and functionally speaking, this is by far the most realistic naval action I've seen on the Xbox. There's nothing more terrifying than seeing the main guns of a British Man-o-war light up just before a volley of cannonballs smash into you broadside. So cool!
The only reason I don't give this a 10 is because there are some minor bugs...like jumping off a rock and falling endlessly into the empty space of the earth below. Seriously, WTH is that all about??
Regardless, this game is amazing and I highly recommend renting or owning.

I really enjoyed the game as a whole. The visuals were absolutely stunning at times.. Reaching the top of a viewpoint in the middle of Boston and looking at the entire sprawling city with massive ships on the coast was about as breathtaking as a video game can be. Walking around a bustling city filled with people and armed guards was also great. Luckily, I didn't really experience any of the glitches that many others had to go through. Putting it all together, AC3 is one of the most beautiful and most dynamic games I've ever played.
I also thought the story finished well. There were some gliches, and Connor is not as strong of a character as Ezio was, but overall the story did a good job of keeping me interested in the game and causing me too really understand Connor and like him. I felt that the revolution was a bit underused as a whole.. the heroes of that war didn't come off as great as they should have IMO.
Gameplay wise, I pretty much got what I expected from AC3. Sword-fighting was about the same, although using different weapons had a nice feel towards it. In general, I thought the entire homestead was pretty stupid. I felt no need to do any of the missions or do any hunting whatsoever because I didn't feel the need to craft anything, nor was I ever starving for money. Maybe I was missing out on some interesting and fun missions, but if a game doesn't give me a motive for doing something, I generally don't do it. On the other hand, the naval battles were absolutely fantastic. Almost all of them were very intense and the ship controls felt very smooth. I thought this was the best addition to the AC3 gameplay formula.
Putting all 3 things together, I think you have a very good game and one of the better games of 2012 IMO
