Very Good

Could have been perfect, but still fantastic

I'll get straight to the point.
Good points: The world the game creates is ridiculously immense and beautiful. There's a heck of a lot to do, and a lot of it very interesting, which in itself is what sets the game apart from others. Tying the story with the American Revolution also works very well, and in general, the story is handled superbly. The characters are developed, the graphics are great, animations are smooth. The game can be difficult to achieve perfection synchronization, but you feel like a true master in the end for it. Also, Desmond's overarching story is handled very well this time, actually investing you in his struggle.

Bad points: First off, this game was released too early, as the amount of glitches present is astonishing. No this is not just my copy. Many others also remark on the same thing, and you'll find that you sometimes have to look up things on the internet to find, say, a certain contact not on the map, or etc. Had this game been developed under a company not as large or important as Ubisoft, it would have been destroyed by reviewers, which speaks for it's technical flaws. 2 more weeks to fix these issues, and it would have been perfect. Hopefully a "Game of the Year" edition will fix all these mistakes. Second, the ending is very underwhelming. Connor's ending manages to work well, but still, it has its moments of "...seriously?". Desmond's ending is what I'm specifically talking about. It doesn't feel worth the 5 game (including AC3) build up. And that honestly is quite sad.

Also, if you didn't understand the character names or terminolgy of the series, i would suggest starting back at the original Assassin's Creed and working your way forward. This series is worth playing. This game is fantastic, and I would definitely recommend it. But be wary. It had the potential for the best game I've ever played, but was brought down to just one of the best.

A Good If Somewhat Unbalanced Game

One thing I should point out in this review is that I have not played any of the other Assassin's Creed Games so I cannot comment to how this game shapes up next to all of the others.

As a stand alone game, I would say that this is a very good game that has a lot going for it. The voice cast is solid (although the Indian dialogue sections are a bit dry). The period levels are highly detailed and the the level of interaction in the environment is pretty deep. There is a lot to do on the side, but you'll want to ensure that you keep up with it so the advantages that come from them are actually useful.

If I had any issues with the game there would only be two things. One is like I said in the title is how unbalanced the game feels. This is in two forms. One is how out of place the interaction feels as it is constantly rubbed in your face that all of Conner's world is a data recreation (minor spoiler if you haven't played the other games). Most of it becomes unnoticeable after a while but certain details like the data streams that hover near interact-able objects and other can be a bit annoying.

The other is how the difficulty waxes and wanes as you play. Certain missions are incredibly easy and then the next mission (or at times the next section of the same mission) will suddenly become so difficult it can be very flustering from time to time. For instance it does not take much for you to be incognito one minute and then have 20 guards chasing you the next.

Despite how glaring these issues might sound in text, in reality they aren't a major issue more often than not and shouldn't heavily affect your gameplay. The second issue I had was that in comparison to the colonial world, the modern world (for what little you see of it) feels extremely rushed, sloppy and/or bland in nature which is unfortunate given the modern tech you see.

Over all though this is still a good game, and while it may not be my all time fav by a good margin, it still holds up well.

Assassins Creed 3 - Amazing!

One of the best sand-box type games I have ever played. Being able to continue the revolution, and then spend 15 hours in the wilderness just killing bears, bunnies, and deer? Sounds like a way for me to ruin my spring break, but in the best of ways!
