AC3's biggest and only real flaw is that it is one of those games that all too often seems to 'almost' cut it, yet leaves you with a bit of disappointment and yearning for more at every turn. I've heard the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" a thousand times, and this is the best example I've seen to date. The combat system is well-conceived, but you're overpowered and armed like a colonial war tank. The story is well-written, but the delivery lacks fine-tuning and seems like pointless gibberish at times. The economy system is intuitive, but it doesn't have a lot of real practicality regarding gameplay. Most of the side missions might seem meaningful.... if half of them had any in-game explanation. Problems like this persist throughout the game. Generally, one gets the feeling that Ubisoft may have simply tried implementing too many features without the ability to bring any to their full potential.
Ultimately, the game almost got it right, but after 5 years of development and gameplay in the franchise, it just doesn't feel like enough. If you're a die-hard AC fan, you'll probably want this game in your collection, otherwise, definitely rent before buying as you may find that it feels unpolished: it simply doesn't deliver as promised.
I have to say that out of all of the assassin creeds to date.. This one was by far the most forgettable.. This game is plagued with bugs. They should of waiting another six months to release. The story is good for desmond. But connors story is kinda meh. The idea of this game was great but poorly implemented in my opinion.
As a die hard fan of Assassin's Creed, I was really looking forward to Assassin's Creed 3. With a different setting and main character, I was very hyped up for this game. But unfortunately Assassin's Creed 3 is a step back in the series, and will most likely be the last game I ever get hyped up for.
PROS: The naval battles are extremely well done(best part). The graphics and environments are really impressive. The combat is very fast paced and fluid. Although I'm not a big fan of multiplayer, it hasn't changed very much so if you enjoyed multiplayer in previous games, then you'll most likely enjoy this one.
CONS: At launch the game was filled with bugs and glitches, many were game breaking and forced me to restart a mission several times throughout the campaign. Chances are they've been patched but it's pretty clear that the game was not polished at all. Many of the side missions and activities felt pointless as they offer very little in rewards, even the naval missions. Connor is dull and uninteresting, the least likable assassin so far. The story missions are medicore, I was really looking forward to the american revolution scenario, but most of those set piece battles were a complete let down. One of the most important gameplay aspects of the series was the rooftop climbing, and sadly it was diminished in Assassin's Creed 3, as you will rarely climb rooftops in the campaign. The ending to Desmond's story was terrible, it felt rushed and anticlimactic, for someone who has been following the story since Assassin's Creed 1 came out, I expected more.
OVERALL: Assassin's Creed 3 is not a bad game. But it definitely isn't great compared to the previous installments. For every step forward this game took it took two steps back.
