I'm a big fan of racers but this one feels like it was thrown together last minute to make the launch date. The gameplay is sluggish and my biggest complaint is the frame rate is horrible. Although the 3D adds a nice depth effect, the poor frame rate makes this feel like an windows 6.5 or earlier mobile port with some 3D added. Looking beyond the frame rate issues, I didn't find the tracks to be that fun. Even when you do jumps, it looks like someone took 2 pictures a second and made a flip book. This game I think is the first racing game I didn't like anything about it. Even changing between cars before a race was sluggish. Having played several other 3DS games, this one does not do 3DS justice and hopefully the next version will be more polished; and fun.
The game seems to have had potential, but there are some issues with it. 1). I didn't find the racing that fun or addicting, theres nothing compelling about it. 2). I personally hate the control scheme, and it doesn't help that the control scheme can't be customized. The main button you use on the 3DS is the A button, which is the throttle. Keeping my thumb in that position for even the duration of an entire race is just uncomfortable. This wouldn't be an issue if I could customize the controls so that B or the Right trigger were the throttle. This completely deters me from playing this game.
However, the game seems to have decent graphics and the 3D is subtle but helps to gauge how far the power-ups and such are away from you..
I give it a four because while it has effort and there are some good things about it, it has some problems that just take the fun out of the game for me.
