I don't think much needs to be said here. I didn't expect the game to have very much depth or complexity. While the show has gathered quite a following from audiences older than the target kiddie demographic, it does not mean they'll guide the game towards these audiences. Hence what we have here: A very bare-boned Zelda 2-inspired title. Simplicity to a cue.
As to it being a cash-in, while considered a negative it is not all bad. If your kid really loves Adventure Time they're sure to love this. It's pretty easy and forgiving. If you're wanting something for a trip, then get this too. It's a relatively short game (6 hours or so) so it should be enough for a trip. But if you're like me and wanted to immerse yourself in the Land of Ooo and truly feel like Finn and Jake in one of their adventures then you're out of luck. The game is more of a "oh look here's a character from the show, you recognize him/her? Cool". A large part of the show's charms and humor is lost without the great voice acting.
I wouldn't recommend buying this to anybody other than those with kids. It IS worth a rent if you have nothing else in your Q though. It won't win any awards and it certainly won't be considered one of the greats. But for a game based on a tv show it is certainly one of the better based-on games.
I am so glad i decided to rent this game before i bought it. I am a huge Adventure Time Fan and i was eagerly awaiting the release of this game.
The game itself lacks in many areas. The number one thing is being able to hold my attention. It did not. The controls are basic because you are not doing much other than jumping or sliding. You can switch from Jake's actions to Finn's which is just tiresome for me.
As soon as i put the cartridge in, I was awaiting the familiar soundtrack but i when i heard some awful woman's voice singing the tune, it threw me off. I also anticipated that the developers would feature some if not all original voice work from the show. There was none.
I did not spend more than 10 minutes on this game before putting it back in the envelope. It was a complete bore for me. I had so much hope for this game. I know it could be 10x better than it actually is. I'm hoping that someone will release a decent Adventure Time game perhaps on a better platform.
The gameplay is basic, boring, and doesn't evolve in any real way over the 2-4 hour playtime. The art is pretty, but many sprites seemed to be missing color in sections or had other bizarre issues. The writing is really great and made me not hate the game as much as I should have- it's at least as strong as a good episode of the show. I didn't listen to much of the music other than the main title theme but the title theme is great. However, underneath a strong presentation, the game is a short, boring slog through mediocrity.
This game was more fun then I thought it was going to be. This game is silly like the show, with and actual degree of challenge. Since there wasn't a lot of explanation you actually had to figure how to play the game on you own and figure out the puzzles, but once you get past the first riddle figuring out everything else is easy, yet sadly this game can be beaten in about 7 hours.
