Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War for PlayStation 2 Reviews by Gamers

Short and sweet: Just play Ace Combat 5 if you aren't a pretty big fan of the series. The two games are very nearly identical in terms of gameplay and graphics, but Ace 5 had a much better story.

They did add an Ace Style section to your menu, which allows you to see medals you've won, rival aces that you've shot down, and some stats about yourself.

The best addition to Ace Zero is the Rival Aces feature, but even that boils down to little more than having to fight 2-4 harder-than-usual enemies.

I'd say Ace 5 is definitely the better of the two, and I wouldn't recommend buying Ace Zero unless you're a big fan of the series. (It's a worthwhile rental, though!)

When I firt popped this game into my PS, I thought "heck yeah, another in a great series". I've owned every one in the series and have always been happy with the steady improvement that each new one represents. But this time around its merely a continuation of the last one with nothing really new to speak of. There are minor changes, like the Ace rating system and the ability to choose between wasting a wounded jet or not, but other than that, its basically the same old same old. If you are an avid fan of the series like I am (I still play all of them) I'd say go ahead and buy it AFTER the price comes down, but other than that, its a good rental, easily beaten in a relatively short amount of time. Some things are better, like your wingman actually DOES help this time around, but no stunning new jets, no breathtaking graphics, just the occassional frustrating level, same weapons (the rocket launchers are STILL useless), control, and somewhat improved AI.
