This game was actually my first true foray into the flight sim genre, and, quite frankly, my best thus far... Here's my review.
Graphics: 9
Um... Yeah. Graphics here are excellent. The only thing keeping this from a 10 is the polish placed on the later games in the series. Still, the detail placed on this game is astonishing. Developers really took their time here.
Sound: 10
Wow. The soundtrack is amazing. Period. The sound effects are perfect. And the voice acting... Well, I really liked it. (Shack on the target.)
Gameplay: 8
The developers really took their time here. The control scheme works extremely well for the title. It's not so simple that you'll cruise through every mission with no challenge, but it's not so difficult that you feel like you're flying a brick. AI difficulty has great progression at each level of gameplay, and they can really shove their foot up your thrusters if you're not careful. And not only that, with all the different aircraft available, and all the unlockable content, you'll be playing this one for quite a long time.

Everything about this game mesh together very well, creating an excellent gameplay experience and and all around fun game. For flight sim fans, it's definitely a worthwhile buy, if you don't already own it. For everyone else, it's definitely worth a rent, as this game is just plain good.
