Lacks the magic

I remember the original and this just doesn't live up. I can only find a few problems with the game, which are minor, but that's not why I just didn't care for it.
First of my problem with the game was a complete lack of tutorial. Without an instruction booklet right there I found myself wondering what I was supposed to do and why I couldn't use beans. Suddenly I was forced to use beans but I wasn't told how so I had to fumble around with the controls until something worked. I found a few of the things just needless fluff like making the blob calm down or hugging it.
My second problem was a loading screen. It takes a bit to load just at the Wii menu then the game takes longer than usual to start up. Then between each area you go into is a short loading screen. It felt like playing a PSP game.
One thing that annoyed me about the game was a lack of dialogue or story. Sure there was an intro movie, which you couldn't skip, but it didn't give you a plot line and I don't know if one ever happens because I was bored with the game after the 5th area.
Another annoyance, only one save. You have to share this game with one save.
The game is cute and the art is nice. The animation is really solid. You start out with only 3 jellybeans which change depending on the level. I'm guessing it's to prepare you for how to use them later on in the game but this could all be done with a quick easy tutorial. I don't have any major issues with the game I just found it bland. The original game sparked exploration and adventure. This just felt like a plain platformer.
At some point playing a game you just admit it's mediocre. Nothing worth mentioning and nothing that terrible. In the end it comes out as an average Wii game which is sad. I expected to enjoy this game but I just couldn't stay interested. I guess I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys a storyline.
