I will state up front that I played all of the original XCOM games, so I am somewhat biased, but at the same time I had high expectations.
The game exceeded all of my expectations, and my only complaint is that it did not last longer. I feel like the company did what every other game company is doing and ignored content for the sake of improving graphics. You can see this in the fact that their trailer had no game play in it.
The visuals are very nice. Gameplay is awesome, as would be expected for the XCOM series, but I felt like the game ended too quickly having finished it in 40 hours, and I was pushing it out as much as I could at that. It seems like you get to the end game very quickly.
Also, it seemed too rehearsed with very specific events happening within each month and always the game pushing you to the end game without giving you much time to research a new technology you just learned. I think this was on purpose, stating that if aliens were to attack you would have a very short time to get ready and respond, so I don't ding it heavily for this, but it is a game and could have had much more content.
It was very entertaining, and I look forward to sequels!
