I missed the thief series back in the day. Too busy with Ultima Online. But this game caught me way off-guard with it's ability to still, to this day, be a slam dunk in the stealth category.
Many people who would like this game are players of the Splinter Cell series and the Assassins creed series. Stealth and ingenuity are the driving factors of this game. As long as you can handle the lower end graphics... Which, for all intents and purposes, aren't that bad. I tend to lean towards gameplay over graphics. The story is great, i wouldn't say riveting... but great. The possibilities are endless with Thief: Deadly Shadows.
This game deserves a much better rating that it currently has. Some poeple may give it poor grades because they simply cannot install it. This happens from time to time when trying to use a game, or even program, years and years after its development. Still this game simply sucks you in and doesn't let go. The varieties of kill options and stealth options are endless and the replay value is high.
Why is the replay value high, you ask? Well mainly because your first time through you wont really have the whole grasp of what you CAN do in this game. It's not about knifing or using your bow... It's about outwitting your enemies.
Bottom line is, this game is fantastic and deserves a playthrough regardless of your age or upbringing. This was the birth of a whole new genre: covert espionage. Still a monumental game despite its age and I definitely recommend a playthrough. Don't let the graphics fool you, you'll be engulfed in the game in no time.
