The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for PC Reviews by Gamers

The recent reviews of this game has been bad despite a long history of really good reviews for the game. It is different from the first which might upset some of the huge fans of the first, but nothing so perverse that is would ruin or should even really affect the original fan's experience.

Graphics: Not sure what some guy was smoking when he said they were bad. This game had phenomenal graphics for its time and they're still far superior to 90% or more of the games on the market. He did note that he didn't buy the PC version which he originally intended to, but if you play a game on a PC then on a console of course the graphics are going to be sub-part. PC demolishes current console graphics unless your PC sucks.

Gameplay: The gameplay has been refined in this game from the first. Everything from movement to the combat system is a little faster paced, with a little more control available to the user, and it works incredibly well when using a controller for your PC. The old combat system was a little slower paced, and really only focused on a few select actions during combat whereas this game requires a little more input from the player.

Storyline: It has a fairly decent story. I felt more entangled by the first game's story, but this one still holds up pretty well and kept me mostly interested. I was disappointed with the sidequests as they can feel monotonous at times, but what game ever does sidequests well?

I've heard comments about the bad voice acting, but it isn't that bad. I wasn't bothered by it in the least, actually. Someone always complains about voice acting in games, but I've never noticed much of a difference between the games people claim have awesome voice acting and those they claim have bad, except in a few cases where low-budget games hired monotone people to recite lines.

In all, this game is more than worth it especially when it goes on sale for like 75% off every few months. No reason anyone should regret paying 20 bucks for this game.

I found the user interface, especially for combat to be a little demanding. Almost too hard to be fun. Liked the interface of the original much better. Why is it when companies try to improve something, they end up making it harder to use?

Why a 3? Simple.

Strike One: This game is a beast to install and get configured correctly. I have downloaded and installed complex games before, and my comp is not an old system, less than a year old as of this writing. I've wrangled with .ini files before, but this is the first game ever where I needed to set the .ini file to 'read only' as it will change it back to the crud settings at every start of the game. I ended up configuring it more than I actually played it. Not good.

Strike Two: Do you recall those early Korean Free to Play games where you needed to control the camera with WASD and your mouse separately, as there was a terribly programmed chase camera that didn't turn when you did? Yup. It takes getting used to, but you can eventually learn to ignore watching your character turn while in the heat of combat, then remember to sway your mouse so you can get the new target into view. Sort of. It's a skill I don't care to further develop. It's also why I don't play Korean free to play mmorpgs.

Strike Three: Terrible Combat Controls, a terrible, stupid tutorial where you get more 'explanatory popups' telling you about how to do something, and before you can do it, another two pop-ups stop everything to tell you what's going to happen after you learned about it. Meaning you're a few hundred words past the actual skill they're teaching and into a new skill before you can actually 'do' it the first time. Plus, the ending Arena battle that determines your game difficulty settings is a complete mess. I've played free games with less frustration than I do with Witcher 2.

Save your money. I wish I get could mine back. By the time you're done looking up how to get this game smoothly working with your computer, you could have been enjoying a day or two's worth of fun in any other game that is actually enjoyable the first day you download and install it.

Bad voice acting. Very poor graphics and character detail. Has nothing that the original game had. I gave this game a good six hours to get good and it just never got the message.

I am especially dissapointed in that I was very excited for this game when it was released, but I am very glad I never purchased it on the PC. I would have hated myself if I did.

If you think this review is in error, then play the original game, and you'll more than likely agree.

ive played alot of rpgs and lately it seems most are extreamly disappointing. this is not one of those games. the story line is great. and combat is very well done. the fact that you could ally with whoever really was a plus and and the best part about it at least for me is that the ending didnt disappoint. ive always found that even the best rpg can end up being disappoint because of a bad ending. and the witcher 2 had a great one that set up the next game perfectly. over all i give it a 10
