I purchased this game from steam months ago. I have played it several times and it is a continual let down. No adaptive graphics that allow for massive armies. I would like to even send 50 men on horseback without lag, it isn't too much to ask for this genre. Let down, continually upsetting. Several crashes. Horrible support from Firefly. Do not buy if you want a functional castle builder for more than singleplayer. So many issues it's hard to count. Look at their patch news and you'll see the minor issues that should have been fixed before release. PS. I am still waiting for a firefly account that I applied for, on 3 different email addresses to see if I could even get a reply.

BEWARE!

PS, I have a great system, it isn't a hardware problem.

I Loved stronghold and Stronghold 2 and well i have 4 computers the least advanced computer that i used was my dell xps M1730 all of them more than exceed the requirements for this game. If the game doesn't randomly crash it runs like garbage. There are tons of error fixes you will find all over the web. I have done all i can and i am at a point where i can get the game to run smoothly for about a hour then it will crash. before that i couldn't get it to run at all...then it was the fps was terrible. I highly recommend that no one else purchases this game. Yes it is fun to play but it is less complex than Stronghold 2 and less expansive but decently multiplayer ablities. If the game would run long enough for me to complete some missions with out crashing, i would have rated it a 8 or 9 but the bugs and techincal problems that run rampant with this game are absloutly terrible. I am currently in the process of trying to get my money back cause i have wasted a week trying to fix something that is just not fixable. Unless you have a similar setup to the computers this game was built and tested (If it was ever beta tested witch i highly doubt it was really done due to the ammount of problems it has had.) It will not run properly. Its a great game that just doesn't run right. So if you bought it and can't get it to run GO GET UR MONEY BACK. If it runs on your computer good for you. I have 2 Intels and 2 AMD 2 are dual core 2 are quad core one of each so they all well exceed the requirements and yet it does not run right on any of them. If you still want to buy it i highly suggest you go read other reviews you will see ones just like mine all over the web.

This game is a huge miss by Firefly. I loved the Stronghold series up until this release. Some missions are unreasonably difficult. The 'Easy' 'Normal' and 'Hard' difficulty settings only change the amount of resources you need to gather. You still get bombarded by the same amount of plagues and catastrophes.
In the previous games, user was able to move and tilt the camera at will. Here the camera only tilts when you zoom in or out and you have no control over it. When fully zoomed out, you only get bird’s eye view, when fully zoomed in, you get only certain angle of view. If you want to see up close which of your troops are getting hammered and who is shooting at them by moving the camera, you're out of luck. The happiness system is also something to be desired. It's virtually impossible to get enough positive happiness for peasants to arrive quickly if you need larger labour force.
There are no Kingmaker or Conquest campaigns, only a series of military or economic campaigns. This makes the game pretty limited. I've played the economic campaign in a few days. I have no idea how many mission there are in the military campaign, because I'm stuck on one mission that I cannot get through. The army you're given is too small and gets slaughtered with ease - very frustrating!

So far, I don't see any downloadable maps and scenarios.
Otherwise, I'm not having any issues running the game on my DELL XPS.
Breakdown:
Playability 2 (not enough campaigns, no downloadable content, frustrating missions)
Graphics 4 (dark and gloomy, army units blend together, all the building look alike, love the lighting)
Audio 3 (audio files taken from previous game - nothing new there)
Interface 6 (very similar to previous games - easy to understand and navigate)

Overall 3 ... this game deserves TWO BIG THUMBS DOWN!
