Amazing game in the same vein as Gothic

Let me start by saying that I have never played the console versions so only the conversion to console controls is something I can see to justify the low review most sites gave this game. That or because of its harsh difficulty but thats a great thing that makes the world feel much more belevable imo.. but something to be aware of.
This game feels perfectly old school from having to visit trainers to rank up skills to the way you have to quest your way into a class based on what faction you join. Warrior types (only scrolls as magic) get to prove your place among the outlaws to overthrow the oppressive inquisition or join the order as a novice mage or a order warrior recruit that only gets access to 1 school of magic and staff type weapons. I can only speak from the perspective of the outlaw faction but it felt very good hammering out my place among the resistance.
The sites that gave this game a bad review still speak highly of its story and voice acting but talk against it based upon its combat which I found no fault with on the pc. Gamespot gave gothic 2 an 8.1 and this game a 6 and gothic didn't even have mouse support! I had played and loved this companies gothic games (1&2) previosly but because of gothic 3, I almost didn't buy risen thinking maybe they are losing the magic.. I'm so glad I took the chance. Anyone that has played gothic 2 and liked it will find a lot to like here. Newcomers that come into this game expecting an old school feel with modern graphics should also enjoy it. If this game is on sale as you're reading this, stop reading and just buy it.
