this game is awesome!!!.. I spend multiple hours on the multiple campaigns this game has!.. if u like building cities and having control over everything!!!.. then this game is for u!.. I played tons of civilization 5, and besides the combat, this has more city requirments then what that game has, maybe not more empire building but this game deff. makes u think.. easily worh a 9/10 from me.. I suggest u dl this and play it for free, would hurt 1 thing!

Good city builder, not good warfare builder

This game was way better than I thought, due to the fact that it had an impressive city strategy/simulation aspect to it. You need to build everything a usual city needs (food, drink, baths, homes, resources, jobs), in order to fulfill your citizens' needs and wants. If you do not fulfill these expectations, than riots will burn your city apart, which almost gets annoying after awhile, since it can be hard to please everyone.
The only disappointing aspect of this game I thought was the lack of warfare simulation. You can only build three military buildings - barracks, stable, and archery training, which is the most common military there was back then, but you cannot specifically train individual units or different genre of a foot soldier. I do like how the military buildings, such as the barracks, have a squad a soldiers you can deploy, instead of dealing with every soldier invidually.
For the most part this game was pretty good, far better than I thought at first. The only let down of this game was the lack of military expansion you were allowed to create, but as far as other things in the city, it is very versatile.

its not like age of empires there is not alot of combat but it is a great city builder the citizens require everything (food, cloth, drinks, monuments, baths) and many more but its never at level that starts to make the game annoying. Its a very fun and relatively realistic game and i would reccomend it to anyone

I love this game. It holds a lot of potential for fans of city-builder games like Tropico. In fact it is pretty much a Roman-era version of Tropico. The combat is... slightly less interesting than expected however.

Like a New Age Sierra Civ Builder

5 out of 5 gamers (100%) found this review helpful

If you were a gamer in the early 2000s, odds are you remember the civ building games produced by Sierra. Off the top of my head, there was Zeus (and the Poseidon expansion), Dynasty, and Cleopatra. All of them ran on the same engine and concept, essentially a clone of each other with a fresh coat of paint on top to make it a different era (Greece, Japan, Egypt, etc.) Imperium Romanum is eerily similar to these games, with better graphics and more spoken dialogue.

A word of warning : this game will start off slow. If you're one of those people that need constant action, this game isn't for you. If you can sit down and easily lose and hour or two playing a strategy game, give this game a shot. It seems that it's more enjoyable as time passes, as you learn how to better build your city state.

If your looking for combat, this is not the game for you. If you've always wanted to build a Roman city then you'll play through once, then likely remove it. Easy controls and not too complicated for what it's trying to achieve though.

good caesar game. There are enough elements to be fun, but it's not too complicated as to drive you crazy. I lost intrest after awhile, though. Once you've built one roman city you've built them all.

This game is solid 5 outa 10 material. Its enjoyable but compared to many "great" city builders its well, ok.

The good: Looks pretty
Easy to get into
Easy to manage large cities.

The bad Music! What is up with the jazz piano score and flute solo? I felt like I was at a French poetry read at a local book store.
Poor zoom. Doesn't have basic zoom functions like follow or even close up.
Military Im not looking for the next Theater of War but if you put terms like "RTS" in your official description you should at least at commands like hold position.
Lack of game world complexity. Hardly any goods, few services and arbitrary zone limits. While this makes the game easy to jump into I have to knock the game for it. Come on its a Rome simulator, how many casual kids do you expect were going to buy this?

This works on Windows 7!

Yes it will work, for games that have issues or just wont run at all on w7 do the following

1) Download the game normaly with your GF client.
2) DO NOT INSTALL the game from the GF client.
3) Find the setup file you just downloaded on your computer.
(for me this is Documents>GameFly>downloads>60671435)(Each game you download will get its own number just find the numbered file for IRG)
4) Right click Imperium Romanum Gold_v1.04.147_ddsetup(Choose Properties)
5) Under the Compatibility tab check the box marked "Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
6) Press Apply on the bottom right of the window and close it.
7) Double click Imperium Romanum Gold_v1.04.147_ddsetup (This will start the install of the game, finish the download as normal.)

Note: The game will run fine for you after doing this, but will not show up in your GameFly Client "Installed" tab. You will have to launch the game from the location you installed it to, or the shortcut on your desktop.

I hope this helps fellow members out there.

PS. These same steps work for a number of games that have issues running with w7.

I downloaded this game. It would not play, saying that my system had insufficient graphics capability. I checked their requirements, and my system surpassed both their minimum and recommended system requirements. Ran a video diagnostic, and my system works, the chip works, and the drivers work. Went to the website of the company, and was unable to resolve the problem. I uninstalled it, and am annoyed that I wasted my time on this. I am a fairly intelligent guy -- a member of Mensa -- and being unable to make this work or even understand why this would not work is pretty annoying.
