Good

Hardcore RPG

Despite the weak story, this is a good old school party based RPG, much like Baldurs Gate/Neverwinter Nights seires but of course in very good 3D graphics. Although nothing really stands out as different than those games in the same type, it's still fun to play. The game does have some flaws. First thing you will notice is the bad camera, though it's not clunky enough to ruin things but just feels very uncomfortable. The other thing that not very good is the linear gameplay and dialogue. There are nearly no story branching in this game and combat gets repetitive the more you play. At last the game's journal system is poorly written and it does not offer enough information for quests, so most time you have to run around to find the destination. On good side though, this game has a very unique character advancement system and very robust gameplay. Once you understand the game's mechanics, it's really a very fun game. Generally Drakensang is a game for die-hard RPG fans, but I do not recommend this to RPG newbies.

The character development system is pretty good, nice and open. The couple things that made it too annoying to play were the camera and movement controls and the combat. The camera and movement involved holding a mouse button and moveing to adjust the view, then clicking the screen where you want to go, rotating again, clicking again and so on. That can get annoying in a twisty cave system. And the combat was just not fluid, especialy for magic.

The action in the game is rather slow paced even in combat where you choose a skill to use then wait for your "turn". The combat system is some sort of hybrid between real time and turn based where everyone is attacking all at once but must wait between attacks and skill use. Like many other games with crafts the actual crafting portion seems rather pointless. Overall its not a terrible game just somewhat slow, worth playing while you wait for another game to arrive in the mail.

This has to be one of the finest ever written and coded games I have ever enjoyed playing. With two other friends we all assumed one of the charcters and played the stop action turn based battles. The game is fantastically ahead of it's time with comparisons to other developers and their out of a mold based styling. Creativity is a hallmark of this development team.

You simply have to experience the game to understand how wonderful the game is. It's not the same old same old RPG. It's ahead of the rest for sure. From it's beautifully rendered terrains and cities to the GUI players find themselves using to level characters, it is superb! And character development, well it's like everything else they did in the game, uniquely the best.

First time I heard of this game was from the UPP and I thought I would give it a whirl. Controls seem easy enough to master and I love the fight system that is semi-real time while also allowing for a bit of turn based control with the pause feature to allow you to gather your thoughts in the middle of the fight. I think the pause feature is one of the best as you can control when the pause kicks in making the game manageable for newer RPGers. I like having the pause in there for me to be able to execute my attack scheme as fast as I would be able to if I were the actual character. It takes longer to get the spells and attacks ready than it would if you were really the person casting the spell or swinging the sword. It makes you feel like you are really fighting in place of the character. I am still in the beginning of the game, but I am already in love with it story wise and graphically.

This game appears to be a generally solid, if somewhat uninteresting rpg. I did not play this one for very long, It may get better after a couple of hours of game play.

Some its features are still not in many games as they should be so play it and enjoy it, only complaint I had with it was a tiny bit lacking on gear but reasonable still so no bigs and that a lot of the companions were not flushed out enough, but that I guess was also part of its charm it just toke away some of the replay value, major emotion, etc... But they still good amount felt alive and everything just that you can not have any real relationship with any of them beyond small friendship and you never 100% feel the need to get them all or party with them at random times or w/e unless you love them OOC or the very few remarks and what not they make.
