For those wanting the best experience possible with this game, follow these steps:
1 - Download and install this game through the game client
2 - Download the free "D2X-XL" package through the project website (do a google search for "D2X-XL" to get it)
3 - Run the D2X setup file in the folder where Descent 2 was installed (in my case, "C:\Users\[name]\Documents\Gamefly\Games\Interplay\Descent 2")
4 - Go into Gamefly's client and instead of "Play Now" choose "Change path"; change it to run D2X-XL instead of DOSBox in the same folder
5 (optional) - Download all relevant upgraded textures, models, missions, etc. from the same website you downloaded D2X-XL from and extract them all into the same folder that you placed your D2X-XL install file into before running it
6 - Enjoy the same game with a much improved experience. :)
NOTE: This works for both Descent 1 & 2.
