Not bad at all

This was one of the first free games that I played on here and it wasn't that bad. Very much worth the time if you're sitting around with nothing to do. A good bit of dungeon crawling with some good action, by the end you feel like a walking explosion, trudging slowly but surely through wave after wave of helpless victims. I could easily imagine the end turning out to be a man's insane massacre dream, but it's fun regardless. The game starts out a little hard and then by the end it's pretty hard to lose if you're worth your salt as a gamer. I do have a pretty huge complaint about the dialogue however. Who wrote for this thing, seriously!? It's like a really smart fourth grader took about two days writing the NPC speeches which are long winded and full of all kinds of grammar error. Whatever though, it's pretty decent for a free game.

Avencast: Rise of the Mage is a fun little game. You play the clichéd promising magic student about to take his final exam in mage school and embark on a story that takes you through the school's grounds and a cave or two. The game setting is almost entirely indoor and you are not provided an open world in which to travel.

The spells are fun and the skill tree allows you to focus on melee or ranged combat, with summoned pets available to all. There are plenty of bad guys to dispose of, but the game is not all "hack and slash". Many of the quests involve solving puzzles, none of which are frustrating.

The awkward interface means it will take some time to get your character and the camera to move well together. Containers are impossible to identify visually, so you'll want to try and open every desk, bookcase, chest, barrel, and nightstand you come across.

Avencast is entertaining and, aside from the clunky character control, most casual gamers will find this game enjoyable.

Some heart went into this game. Cut scenes are still pics which are kinda boring, but the story is narrated and they use a wide assortment of great voices. The story is short and sweet through the game. If you want to play an RPG and finish within a few days this is the game for you. Game play is simple other than the view which is a lil weird but you get use to it. I'm a retired Everquest and WoW player and this game seems like a small piece of that kind of gaming without the online sense.
