Very Good

Amazing game to a some, terrible to Others

I absolutely loved playing Velvet Assassin. The game is beautiful graphically, and the lighting is good. Some people are turned off by this game because they try and play it like a normal run'n'gun game, which is just asking for death. The entire game is based around your ability to stay hidden and hide bodies. There are a few spots where a shoot out is necessary, and it does get tricky. This game is kind of like Vampire Rain meets Call of Duty. I will admit though, some of the stealth kills do get old. The other thing that gets annoying is the AI being able to see you while you are fully hidden, but in a way it adds to the realism. The AI likes to look at you while you are hidden, walk away, then when they are about 10 steps away turn around and start shooting you. The character upgrade system is amazing and the upgrades help out quite a bit in the long run. If you are looking for a shooter, I do not suggest renting Velvet Assassin, but if you are into stealth and World War II games, Velvet Assassin is perfect for you.

Very Good

For true stealth fans

For those of you that think Splinter Cell is a hard core stealth game, then this isn't for you. This game is most fun when you are trying to sneak up and backstab your enemies. I've played through two missions already and used a gun twice and that was at a part where I had to run out to escape an explosion. If you know your way around a stealth game then you'll know that their are in fact lots of different ways to dispatch your enemies. You can destroy generators to shut off lights, whistle to attract a guard, in one area their was a spotlight behind a slow moving fan which created moving shadows that, if timed just right would allow you to sneak behind a guard.
The tension is very good here with creepy music and environment design. One of the best things is the letters and conversations you encounter that demonstrate that soldiers on both sides are often times still just human beings that just want to go home to their families.
The game does have it's flaws though. First and foremost, you can't save when ever you want, they only have a check point system and the check points are a bit sparse but not so bad that it's incredibly frustrating. As I said this game is not for casual gamers or core gamers that don't like stealth. If you like lurking in the shadows and love games like Thief and Metal Gear, then this one is for you.
