Great! This game has continued to perfect an already fantastic title. Comedy, action and a great story-line. Characters are played well, the graphics are totally this gen, and the gameplay is fun. Just like the first instalment, this could be a movie. The twists and turns keep you at the edge of your seat, and the battles are even more fierce than its predecessor. The only complaint I have is I tend to fall to my death a little more than I'd like, and a couple more weapons could help out. Overall, this game is true to its hype.
Yeah, all the action game/movie cliches are there. Lots of corny one liners and dialogue. Typical adventuring game plot that's been done a thousand times. The usual formula, the usual boss battles, the usual villains, the usual plot holes, the usual set pieces, the usual cut scenes, the usual design scheme with lots of gargantuan gears, gigantic stone statues with minor puzzling elements and the expected mountain/overgrown temple/high waterfall look of Shangri-La. We've seen it all before.
Despite all of this, I found myself really liking this game. The mechanical flaws in the original Uncharted (and there were many) seem to have been ironed out, although combat and controls are still somewhat hinky, but vastly improved. Characters were much more likable (although, as usual, distinctly one dimensional) and the voice acting was some of the best I've heard. Chloe in particular. Great job casting, Naughty Dog. Despite the multitude of groaners, I found myself laughing while playing at the actors decidedly tongue in cheek portrayal of the characters, and that's a good thing. There were, of course, the usual and expected eye-rollingly annoying attempts at "romance," but they come off less cloying than usual.
It's a fast play, but feels more substantial than the first game, and while it moves along, you don't feel cheated. For the first time in awhile, I felt satiated, but not overly so when I completed the game. I didn't feel the need to play through it again, however. I felt I saw all I needed to see, while the graphics were beautifully rendered and awe inspiring (if not perfect.) I didn't get too far into the multiplayer, although I did play a few co-op missions, and those added substantial replay value to the game.
All in all, a great effort by Naughty Dog, and I look forward to the future.
