wow, the commerical is right, this game plays like a movie....but not in that dull, watching tons of cutscenes...nope, TONS of action, on a level that almost leaves the player feeling not quite in control of the situation, which makes every move seem that much more crucial. but i digress, this game is THE BEST GAME CURRENTLY ON THE PS3!
For you old-timers out there, this game reminded me of the first time I played the original Prince of Persia. It doesn't really do anything new but it does a lot of gaming standards better than they've ever been done before. Like unprecedented detail in character animation and amazing level design.
All 26 levels are unique and lovingly crafted. No repeating blocks of graphics to be seen. I found myself panning around each new landscape like a tourist when I reached a new area. And the whole game moves forward in a very cinematic fashion with no visible load times anywhere.
Unlike its close cousin the new breed of Prince of Persia games, U2 has lots of fun combat with an enjoyable stealth option which is well-balanced with the great platforming portions. Top notch (for a video game) voice acting and writing. Likable characters. Plenty of Call of Duty-style scripted OMG moments.
The only complaints I can think of are minor. The cinematic quality and degree of polish on the action portions make it almost feel like an on-rails experience in certain parts. There's not a lot of incentive to explore (other than the obvious visual pay-off) or to do anything but advance the main plot. And it's a relatively short game - I finished in around 9 hours. Other games might have doubled that running time by making you go back through levels twice or running dumb fetch-quests, but U2 jams in 9 of the most action-packed, beautiful hours I've ever spent with a game.
