Twisted metal starts out good. It has a variety of vehicles and weapons a-plenty. It has those classic elements of the old twisted metals that you know and love. Cars destroying other cars. The story of the different characters is dark and wonderful. However, it hits a few snags.
The dark story, has to be played in order, and you only get the story of 3 characters out of all the possibilities. Second, the environmental weapons that used to be in the arena are gone. Still a sold game, then it makes some major unforgiving errors.
1) it tries to be a racing game. Twisted metal was never about racing and never should be. Especially when the last race is not setup in a common sense method, but the computer knows exactly where to go to hit the next checkpoint...oh and it never falls either...yeah, super.
2) The boss battles which start as fun, turn really awful fast. At one point you fight a giant robot and you dont really have any idea what to do unless you have played multiplayer..lame. The last boss battle is an simply an exercise in frustration.
I wanted to finish the game, but the last boss area was simply too arbitrarily hard to be enjoyable. So much for my youth.
