Like many of the other reviews, it starts off fun but eventually turns into a button mashing game. The only reason i kept playing was for the cool cut scenes and the semi interesting story. After a while i realized I could just watch all the cut scenes on you tube and skip the pointless repetitive game play. I can only wonder why they would make such a bad as game with Shattered Dimension and then make this game...
Despite seeing the low review scores on this game, I decided to pick it up because I'm a hardcore Spidey fan. I played the last Beenox Spider-Man title, Shattered Dimensions, and loved it.
This time around, you only play as 2 versions of Spidey: 2099 and Amazing. In Shattered Dimensions you played as 2 additional forms. Despite the cutback on characters, the game was good in length and was paced well, although the Challenges were stupidly difficult (but thankfully optional, unless you want achievements), and there's only a couple of bosses vs. the 16 chapters you have to play through.
You can still put on alternate suits and buy upgrades and powers, but most people can get by with using the left trigger to dodge and just mash X and Y to pummel everything.
The graphics are beautiful, and the voiceovers are exceptional. For anyone who hasn't been caught up on the comics, you might have to look up who these characters are and how they came to be, because when you first put the disc in it immediately throws you into the action with no explanation of anything. I didn't know the game had even started at first.
All in all, it's a solid game. Some sections can be frustrating (having to fight a certain boss and goons 3 times in a row, with no checkpoints on the 2nd and 3rd fights, thus making you start over if you die), but it's a great title that any Spidey fan can enjoy.
