This game concept and art was great, but the game itself was a let down for the length and the variety of missions. it was a combination of Fallout, Red Faction and borderlands. The end sucked and was not anything special. In all it was a fun game till i got to the end and just was disappointed.
I can't really think of a reason "why" it's not for everyone. I can't imagine why anyone would rather play this than something else but since reviews are up and down all over the place, I am just going to say "Not for everyone."
Okay. I go from Dead Island to this and was really excited for Gamefly to send me Rage on release. At the moment I wish I had Dead Island back. So far I am about 8 hours in and I have had to literally push myself to keep going. My major concern is my theory that ID Software spent most of thier time working on their engine than the actual gameplay of Rage. The entire time every mission has been go there and do this, then get that, then come back, and recieve a so-so award. Perhaps the driving is what bored me. I have never been a fan of racing games such as Grand Turismo, or head to head carmaggedon such as the Twisted Medal francise. Nor am I a fan of shooters, albiet, I have clocked several hours in Black Ops.
This game does have similarities to games such as Borderlands but I am not going to be one of those idiots who complains how "they copied this." Who cares; if it is fun, that is all that matters. On of the main aspects that upset me was, after all the monsters you kill, you really don't have anything to show for it. I am a true blue RPG'er and the fact that there exist no experience or level up feature in the Rage universe really turned me off. But like I said it is not for everyone so how about running down to Blockbuster and seeing if it is for you. I on the other hand would rather save my shipping time for another game.
Yes graphics are very well done in this game. It did take a page or two from Borderlands, and Fallout. Too much driving around I think, and most of the world seems stale so far. I would say its a fairly decent rent. So far I don't really like no leveling and or experience, I wish the HUD had a health display, you kind of have to do a guessing game. Some the rewards seem light after awhile and looting really doesn't net that much (probably because I am still in Wellspring). Some of the characters voices seem flat as well, and most of the quests thus far are get this go there type stuff.
