I'm not a Metroid fan really. But thanks to GF, I reluctantly rented this one out. Oh man am I glad I did...I found this game to be MUCH better than the previous Metroid Trilogy. I actually enjoyed playing every moment of this game. This one was really hard--with puzzles, combat and all--but not to the point of a headache like the previous three. This game doesn't force you to go back and forth endless times through different maps/areas, and that eliminates one big annoyance there.
Here are some highlights: the personification of Samus as well as the characters (you get to know the characters on a whole different level); the ambiance/environment; the music; the enemy designs and AI's; the plot & storyline concept; the combat; the puzzles; the cutscenes; and the controls. Just impeccable
The work and effort in the details really show in this one. I can bet on it being thanks to Ninja Studios which partnered in the game's design. I'm super picky when rating games, too..I just couldn't find anything wrong or iffy with the game. No, seriously! If any at all...The controls are a bit of a curveball when alternating between aiming and movement controls, but that makes a nice surprise and challenge in my humble opinion.
I would say that some of the game's moments reminded me of the gamer's experience when playing God of War. Does that sound strange? Well anyway...Not sure what it is with all the average reviews of this game, though. They almost prevented me from ever discovering this game. Maybe there are haters on the fact that this one wasn't strictly a 1st person shooter? I do not know. I am not sure.
