Now, I was a huge fan of Metro: 2033 (the predecessor to this game). And this game took that gameplay and made it better. The graphics were improved, the sound was improved and the physics and stealth aspects were all improved. One of the things I must applaud this game on is the ambiance. Its not a horror game so to speak but you never feel at ease or safe. At night on the surface, when its deathly quiet you can hear all manner of beasts out on the night. Roaring, howling and running. I love that. The gameplay is your typical FPS. Nothing fancy, point shoot kill, reload. You have some ‘nades as well. But dont let that fool you, its very good gameplay, and this isnt the kind of game you buy purely for gameplay. It has so much more than just that. It has a gripping story and an incredible journey. Now, in my opinion, the previous game had a better story but most sequels never do quite live up to their standards. Now, I bought the game because I didnt want to wait for it to be available on on GameFly but I would say its a definite rent, it has okaaaaay replay value but not very much. All in all, it was fantastic like the last one. 8/10 from me.
I thought this game was a great time. I didn't play the first one but did not seem to matter in picking up the story quickly. Great 10-12 hour horror fps if you just breeze through it, but worth listening to the conversations and exploring the different non-combat areas.
