As an AVID gamer I was very impressed with this title from Rockstar. Normally my reviews of Rockstar games are not that great, ie. GTA Series but they have really turned around their games with Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire.
Game play is solid and the story is very well written. The most amazing thing about this game is the facial recognition and movement. The capture technology used is outstanding and the features are spot on. Trying to tell if someone is lying or not really depends on your ability to watch their face and not just listen to their words and had they not been able to capture the faces and movement like they have in this game, you couldn't really play this game.
The only couple of cons I have for this are the loose controls while driving, it's very sensitive and a little hard to control sometimes while in a chase, along with cars not moving out of the way when they hear a siren coming up behind them. Also the camera angles can be a little off at times, but nothing that really hinders the game.
All in all this is a very solid game and with the DLC that is coming available for it just extends the amazing gameplay.
L.A. Noire has simple controls and very easy going game play. The sound track is full on cop movie. The graphics are one thing that really got me. The facial expressions in this game are the most realistic I have seen in a game to date, it is almost creepy at times how realistic the faces can be. The story is excellent as well, it is like watching a good detective movie unfold as you play.
The game is all about solving crimes, and how do you do that? Well you will need to go and investigate first of all. Crime scenes pop up all over L.A. and its your job to go and discern what is relevant to a case and what isn't. Each crime scene is unique and each has a multitude of clues you can find so take the time to look around or else you might end up missing something crucial to your case.
After investigating a scene you will often be interrogating people for more information. This is where it gets fun as you will have to actually be reading the people facial expressions and gestures as they are talking to decide if they are telling the truth, lying or just holding out. If someone is lying you need to have evidence of this to back your accusation. This is where all of your detective work comes into play as you can use clues to help prove they are lying.
Story line progresses with each case and you are awarded exp. based on how well you work the cases. You can also earn exp . from other events including busting crooks in quick side quest known as street crimes, anything from bank robbery's to peeping toms. Gain a level and you unlock more street crime cases, hidden cars and intuition points that can be used to help investigate a crime scene or get easier answers from interrogations.
One thing I didn't like was the city driving, there wasn't anything to keep me interested or any real point to it so I ended up using the auto map to drive everywhere. Other than that the game was lot of fun and I would recommend people not miss out on this fun title of 2011.
