I can't stand watching one of the 500 CSI shows on TV, which is why I'm surprised I enjoyed LA Noire so much. My only beef is the city. Had Rockstar made Chicago Noire, imagine how much better it'd be with Al Capone cases, murder, crooked cops, and a way better city to explore and not use a played out Black Dhalia murder. The graphics, character animation, lighting, shadowing, and overall environmental detail are above any game I've seen on any system to date. Rockstar set the bar for future games.
You start off as a low man on the totem pole LAPD cop. You arrive at a "dead-end" murder scene and your job is to to solve the case. You'll find a certain clue detectives missed, which will lead to you solving it, and eventually becoming a detective. At each promotion thereafter, you'll solve different cases all with the ability to complete mini side missions from dispatch calls while you explore this huge open city Rockstar created.
Most of LA Noire consists of the main case loads. During a case, you'll show up at a crime scene. You talk to eyewitnesses, other cops there before you, coroners, etc. and gather data to build your case in your handy notebook. You'll need to search bodies and the surrounding area for clues to further build your case and unlock new clues and locations.
In addition, you'll have to interview/interrogate, which was my favorite part. That's where their new facial technology comes in play. You determine if responses are true, lie, or doubtful. The problem there lies with determining the diff between lie and doubt, which was a pain at times. You can also use intuition points to remove 1 option to save frustration or replaying a case.
Respond to dispatch calls while driving and you may have to stop a robber, bank burglary, car chase, or whatever. But 95% involve you chasing a guy, then the guy takes hostage at gunpoint, you kill bad guy, you win. But I still loved the game with its flaws.
Fantastic game, graphics are amazing not even to mention the voice-over and the mouth movement is SPOT on including facial movements and emotions. You really get a feel like your the real deal. 3 Discs, no terrible amount of loading. Not everything i expected from Rockstar, they traded a lot of the free roam activities for the story. It's pretty neat to be able to do whatever you want and not get in trouble, because you are the cops! But theres no where fun to go, little landmarks and a few hidden vehicles are your only free roam fun. It feels like your either at the station about to get on a case, at a crime scene, or interviewing people. Story was great, will not argue there. Great game to play, even better game to play just to see how rockstar is making amazing progress in detail.
I'm at a bit of a loss for words...play this game as soon as possible! The story is amazing! The gameplay, with a few exceptions, is amazing! The only real downside is the combat, which is a bit off, but then again, that's not the focus of this game.
