Killzone 2 for PlayStation 3 Reviews by Gamers

I'm just confirming what others have said about this game before me: good graphics, decent storyline but bad controls!

And maybe it's not JUST the controls, the movements on this game are just plain sluggish, whether it's reloading, trying to move quickly out of the way, etc. I played the "Call of Duty" games before doing this one and found this game frustrating and difficult in comparison. No matter how precise you are (even up close), it was very difficult to actually connect with a target. And the aiming function is clunky because you push the button once to lock in but then have to push it a second time to get it to release. In COD (and pretty much any other game), you push the button to aim and hold it as long as you need, then it releases when you let go, a much smoother and quicker response than the sluggishness of this game.

By the time I got to the final boss fight, I was so frustrated that I sent the game back without completing it. Oh well, maybe Killzone 3 is better?

While I had never played the original Killzone, this game looked good enough to me that I didn't care about going into a game franchise on the second title and I am glad that I got it. You play a human soldier who is part of an army who is invading the home planet of an alien race that (in the first game in the series) started a war by attacking the humans. From the beginning, the alien planet comes to life with great detail and the atmosphere and presentation of the game are first-class. The controls and weapons for the game are also very good. All of which makes for a fantastic FPS that is more or less Sony's answer to Microsoft's ultra successful Halo series. While Killzone may not have enjoyed the monetary success that Halo has, it truly is every but as fun and impressive to play. While the multiplayer is still good, it may not be quite the groundbreaking step forward that the original Halo was. However, where the game really shines is in the solo player campaign. The story line is actually quite good for a FPS, a genre that is somewhat notorious for often skimping on the plot details. While it's character development still leaves something to be desired when it is compared to other genres, again, in the world of FPS it as actually above par there as well. The best part is the fact that while the story line and characters are surprisingly good, they do not sacrifice any of the action based game play that are the most important factors in this genre of game. There is a very hearty selection of weapons, as well as a handful of levels that place your character in control of space ship gun turrets, SUV mounted machine guns and more. These extra goodies along with the above average cover-based shoot em' up style FPS game play all come together to make a worthy competitor to Halo and a must try title for any FPS shooter fan who owns a PS3.
