Infinite Disappointment

This is my first written review of a game, so please bear with me.

With Infinite Undiscovery, I was hoping for another Final Fantasy or Lost Odyssey-type game. However, this was not it. The graphics were quite good, especially the opening cinema, but once you get into the game, it goes downhill from there.

Everything is in real time. The combat, the menus, everything. So if you find new armor you want to equip, you better do it fast, or you can be attacked. This goes for healing items, magic and using your "team mates" and secondary characters. The action happens so fast, you don't have time to react. I was also disappointed with the fact that you can't upgrade your items/equipment, nor that your character's appearance did not change with new items being equipped. It doesn't happen a lot with RPGs but I do like it when they do (see Fallout franchise for examples).

Another peeve I have with the game was the voices. You'll be listening to a cut scene, full of voices, then they just cut off. I thought my sound broke the first time as the scene kept going, but it was only subtitles. And the cut scenes are EXTREMELY way too long. One scene with two kids (what's with 5 year old mages anyways??) that took 10 minutes to tell me my next quest...

"Training" takes place as you gain new skills, which consists of nothing more than still pages that you flip through. There's no actual example of how they work in motion or practice. You can go back and read them in the menu, but then you risk getting attacked while sitting around.

All in all, I was quickly bored with this game and sorely disappointed. I spent only a couple of hours playing this game before I became bored with a cut scene popping up every five minutes (or so it seemed) and the fact that I wasn't getting anywhere with the character in terms of development (leveling up and upgrading skills and/or items). I would not recommend this title.

WHY THE BAD PRESS?

I have read the reviews thus far and couldn't disagree more. Yea this game isn't a 10, but it's not as bad as everyone thinks. Graphics are tremendous I like the real-time atmosphere in fighting. This game is way better that tales of vesperia as well. Only real problems I have with this game is that you really have to pay attention to the cut scenes because there isn't a journal feature. If you don't get the dialog then you might be wandering around for a while. Also this game is 2 discs and I am all for it, BUT I finished the first disc around 8 hours!!!! And I am leveling in between missions and taking my time.... 8 hours??? Come on SE. I give it a solid 8.0.

Well I should say the first 2 hours of this game are terrible. I couldn't torture myself with this pile any longer than that.

The controls are clunky. The combat system is a joke. I felt like the game was basically playing itself while I just pushed the A and B buttons over and over. And the majority of the time is spent watching slow, boring, uninspired cut scenes (I found myself wishing that someone would kill the main character off just so I wouldn't have to listen to him whine any longer).

If you can uncover some infinitesimal shard of value from this game, more power to you. But I have better things to do with my time.
