Very Good

Taking A Step Up--

This game inspires something in all of us: Either love or hate. The series becomes more polarizing with each entry. This one is no different.

Set after the events FFXIII, the game follows the story of Lightning's sister Serah, and her friend Noel (pronounced Nole). The two are actually great characters and, compared to the likes of Hope and Snow, are a HUGE improvement.

Many people will be turned off by the fact these are the only two real party members you have. The third and final slot is filled with one of the many (read: hundreds) monsters you can capture a la Pokemon style after defeating them in battle. I found this system extremely engaging and I wanted to test out all the different monsters to find the best. Each monster is assigned a specific class role, and you can have 3 in your "'party" at once. With the ability to switch between those 3 at will. It's intuitive and works very well.

The combat is somewhat "dumbed" down, and I found myself just hitting A....A...A...A over and over again. However I will say the combat is a sight to see and very engaging visually.

The story gets confusing. It's based on time travel and you bounce back and forth between time. With multiple instances of various zones, you find yourself interested to see how time has changed things. Unfortunately they didn't capitalize on this as much as they could have.

Chocobo racing returns, and while not as engaging as in FFVII it is a fun side activity that I applaud. But I still find myself wanting. With the popularity of digital card games on the rise it's baffling as to why a game similar to the card game from FFVIII is non-existent in each installment.

It's also a fairly short game, as far as Final Fantasy goes. But you can still spill dozens of hours into it if you embrace all the side activities and monster hunting.

Give this game a go, enjoy it for what it's worth.

Decent Story Bad Battle System

A lot of people complain that the FF series isn't the same i agree it really isn't and this game is a big reason why. I've been a fan since FF7 as the years went by the series seemed to stray off a bit. However there's one thing i do not agree on a lot of people want to go back to a turned based battle system that's the worst idea ever. Live battle system is the way to go Square Enix just needs to get their head in the game and work hard to make it fun. I found the battle system in part 1 and this part to be so dull its so repetitive. They need a battle system like that of the Tales series a more interactive system, that would be fun. Overall this game was okay but gets really repetitive in combat. In my experience the more interactive a player can be with the characters and the game itself the better game it turns out to be. One final observation some characters in the new series seem to make no sense at all its frustrating.
