Under-rated game!

I thought the game would be horrible based on the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised! It is a very under-rated game and the reviews don't do it justice... I went through the whole game and although its not the best game around, it was certainly worth the rent in the least.
The game follows the movie very closely so if you loved the movie as much as I did, you will enjoy the storyline. It is dark and erie, and has an awesome feel to it. As far as game control, it is smooth and responsive, and you have semi-control over camera angles with the right analog stick, which worked well.
You also have the ability to control your companions which is a very cool feature. You are the leader and can instruct them to move objects, fight enemies, or cover your back. If they are performing a task, you have to protect them from attackers.
The attack moves are great because you can perform combos and the more you power yourself up, the more strength you have. The more successful hits you do, the morale of your companions rise and the more strength you gain. By the time you are at the top, you are performing awesome moves in slow-mo. There is a really cool feature called Carnal Fury that enrages Beowulf and he destroys everything in sight.
Fighting bosses is also very intuitive because the game requires the player to hit certain buttons to perform specific finishing moves, which I thought was challenging and engaging.
As for downsides, I would say that certain moves were often frustrating, such as jumping from ledge to ledge (with difficulty) or trying to perfrom certain tasks. I am not a fan of games that make you waste time finding things, and although this game had quite a few spots that made you look for a while, it was not overly frustrating.
Overall, I would recommend this game and think it has a very incorrect reputation. It was well done and enjoyable to play. After looking through forums, I am not the only one who thinks so.
