Really Bad

Epically bad

This game had the fastest price drop I've ever seen, going from $60 to $20 in about 2 weeks.

I see why.

I hated the "epic poem" it was based upon. Probably the worst thing I had to read back when I was in high school. I've not seen the movie, but outside of a naked Angelina Jolie, I doubt there's going to be a lot there to keep one's interest unless one just LOVES gore.

You, naturally, play as Beowulf, Danish barbarian. You are a strong man with a healthy violent streak, capable of rending people apart with your bare hands. You are also strong enough to swing weaponry so hard that it will break on you in minutes. Repeatedly. Never before have swords been more fragile.

I actually think the game looks pretty nice. It's not going to blow your mind, but it looks better than a lot of games. And that is a good thing since it gives me something positive to say about the game. If not for the visuals, this might be a somewhat hostile review.

You, of course, follow the movie's plot. Having not seen the movie, the plot apparently involves you and your easily killed cohorts engaging in skirmishes that you will lose frequently because you have to spend all of your time saving them from getting killed. You have the ability to unleash extremely powerful carnal attacks --- but since they tend to ALSO damage your squad, it's usually best for you to refrain from it.

The missions are just tedious. The one I got sick of playing was where you had to protect virgins from ogres/trolls/whatever. You save one, get swarmed on by minor baddies, then on the opposite side of the area, another virgin gets taken. You are supposed to save them, but since your slow as molasses, you don't often get there in time.

The game is bad. If you bought it, you got ripped off. If you were given it, mark that giver down as somebody who secretly does not like you.

I just got done playing this game, and safe to say i really cannot complain about the game play it was really wasnt all that bad the graphics were pretty good. I liked that story line. If there was one thing to complain about though, it would have to be the gameplay itself, it seemed that the controls were kind of choppy and i thought they had a little bit of a delay. Overall though i would reccomend this game for rental only, the replay value is pretty low, but if you liked God of War then you like this game.

Horrible

What did you expect from a movie game?

Beowulf had an interesting system with your allies (thanes) but other than that, the game lacked logic on some of the game play. Sometimes the player will have to figure out obstacles with no clue as how to figure it out. Often leaving the gamer scratching their head while looking at what seems to be an impassible obstacle.

Ubisoft dropped the ball with this game. Beowulf's strength was grossly overplayed and like most recent movie games was being made before the release of the movie itself. This leave game developers in the dark on most aspects of the movie's plot but Ubisoft made a valiant attempt at breaking though the horrible movie game stereotypes. They did better than Superman Returns but still needed more time in my opinion.

For those who want to get their gamerscore up, you'll won't likely get past 400 points before you'll want to return this game.
