Alan Wake provides a fun survival horror experience, however, the experience is over just as you really get into it. The gameplay is a scavenge and survive game with the "taken" being the games enemy. The "taken" are similar to aggressive zombies that have shields that can be destroyed by sources of light. The campaign has over 400 collectibles to find, which is a kinda cheap way of extending the games length. If you are only focused on the story and ignore the collectibles the game can be completed in 6 to 8 hours.
This game is something I've never played before, and it works very well. Very good narrative, lots of scares, numerous twists, and questions that are answered and unanswered. Cool setting, nice backgrounds, perfect graphics, need better mouth movements though. A thriller game that is different from Max Payne, and has a more physcological approach that helps it a lot. Overrall, a great game from Remedy, and I hope they get a sequel as soon as the money starts coming in. A sequel would conclude everything, and bring everything to a conclusion, hopefully a happy one.

I have been wanting to play this game for a long time. College and medical school have gotten in the way, but this is my last summer break so here goes my first Gamefly rental and review.
Story: 4.5 out of 5
This story is very unique. The main characters were likeable and there was a touch of humor, which fit in well with the horror genre.
Difficulty: 3 out of 5
The game, even on nightmare mode, was not that difficult once you figure out you can outrun most enemies. The achievement/ trophies were easy as well. Most of them were collectable achievements that you can collect on story mode or chapter replay.
Gameplay: 4 out of 5
The game did a good job of always introducing new enemies to keep you constantly thinking of new strategies for the first half of the game. The second half of the game focused on harder situations with stronger and more enemies. Toward the end you basically mastered the game so it wasn't that challenging anymore.
Graphics/ Music: 3.5 out of 5
There isn't much to say about these categories.
Overall: 8.5 out of 10
The saving grace of this game was the story. It was fantastic. The gameplay was also fun. The game got semi-repetitive toward the end. Coincidentally, it also lost its challenge toward the end too.
